Legislative Update

Elections are in November 2008.  The Florida Medical Association legislative team is already hard at work identifying and supporting medicine friendly candidates.  Such medicine friendly candidates are threatened by candidates supported by lawyers, chiropractors, insurance companies and others whose agendas can clash with that of physicians and their patients.  We need to support our friends!

This requires money and effort.  You can help.  Join FLAMPAC.  Join the MD1000 Club.  Help the Lee County Medical Society evaluate candidates. NOW is the time to put in the effort that will pay off for years to come!

For those of you who may not know, FLAMPAC is the Florida Medical Association’s Political Action Committee.  They endorse medicine friendly candidates throughout our State and give many a $500 political contribution.  They also do polling for candidates and convey their results.  Family membership is only $250.00 a year.  You may mail your check made out to: FLAMPAC to me and I will get it to the FMA office.

The MD1000 Club is an offshoot of FLAMPAC.   This organization is able to bundle checks and perform issue advocacy education of the public during elections.  These efforts are EXTREMELY useful in getting physician friendly candidates elected.  Our Alliance asks a $200 commitment over a 2 year election cycle.  The easy way to join is to send me a $100 check made out to: People for a Better Florida (PBF), which is a medically related issue advocacy group and mail it to me.  I will call you closer to an election for the second $100 check to make out to a specific candidate endorsed by the FMA.  The thousands of dollars collected for that candidate will be gratefully appreciated and will hopefully help them win the election.

Please send me your checks today!  My address is:  Betty Rubenstein, 13301 Ponderosa Way,  Ft. Myers,  FL  33907.  My phone number is:  482-6327.  It is one of the most important things you can do for your spouses practice.  Thank you.
